What is LINK?

This is a unique experience for each student that allows them to get a taste of their potential future. Some students find everything they hoped for in a career, and some are left to reconsider their career paths. Students do not have regular classes during LINK as they spend 30 - 40 hours a week with a mentor learning hw to apply their skills in a professional workspace.
Business of Internship
I completed my internship at Neighborhood Pet Clinic in Littleton, CO. Neighborhood Pet Clinic is a general animals hospital that provides extra services such as overnight care, boarding specialized surgeons and radiologist. They provide care for house pets like, cats and dogs. I chose this clinic because of my passion for animals and animal health/science.

Spring Update (4/18/2020)
What I hope to learn most or get out of this internship is having of better understanding if this is what is what I really want and what other career paths I can explore that are similar to animal health. What are your final thoughts before departing for your internship? What are you excited about? Are you nervous at all? Are there any last details that you need to confirm?
Winter Update (2/10/2020)
Currently in the internship process I have sent email to multiple Vet Clinics and Hospitals in Littleton, I have called two Clinics as well. I have discussed with Neighborhood Vet Clinic about internship and now waiting for head vet to contact me soon.
My next steps if I get in contact with Neighborhood Vet Clinic soon would be confirmation and getting my mentor in contact with Janae. All five of the emails I sent out did not get a response and one of two of my calls got shut down. My best hope right now is Neighborhood Vet Clinic which is a good possibility

Fall Update (10/20/2019)
Doing an internship sounds a bit intimidating, I haven't ever done on before but I want to make it fun and something to remember, that's why I don't really wan tot stay in Durango and go out of comfort zone. I'm interested in multiple fields of internships currently. I'm considering Photography, Vet, Visual Arts and possibly Eye Care. I'm really looking forward to being independent and having an opportunity to figure out what I like. I am a bit concerned about what I'll be able to do having little experience with things like this, I want to do a lot and not just stand behind them and watch. Most of the work I have done so far is brainstorming with Janae to at least try and figure out what I want. My next steps will be reaching out to people and asking about what their work is like.
Post Internship Reflection (5/19/2020)
My internship definitely gave me a great insight to what Vet life would look like. I am grateful for everything I saw and experienced. Over the three weeks, I saw four specialized surgeries, one ultrasound, countless check ups and vaccines, and three general surgeries.
The first week was a tough adjustment with just trying to figure out how I can help around the clinic and what I am comfortable with, but each day it became easier and easier. The employees at the clinic were very welcoming and tried to include me as much as they could. My mentors Tara and Dr. Montz were always willing to answer any of my questions and were very patient with my lack of experience and knowledge. As the second week came I learned about how I could assist with holding arms for inserting catheters, how to restrain cats and dogs, and where supplies are gathered throughout the clinic. When there were slow moments around the clinic I would work on my projects. Some were better than others, I enjoyed being able to create shadow boxes and apply my art and marketing skills to organizing their website. Though it is an important skill to have I did not always enjoy filing or organizing invoices or employee paper work. My projects and task did give me a broad range of things that I now know I want or don't want to do! |
